Today has been a long day. I woke up early, excited to check out Mr. Right, written by Max Landis and starring Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick, only to be told once we were inside that there was a scheduling error and the movie wouldn’t be shown.
After that, many of us attended the master class with former TIFF programmer Liz Czach. This was definitely the highlight of my day. Learning the inner workings of the festival definitely shed a little light on how the films of film festivals, specifically TIFF, are chosen.
I am now back in the hostel, and although there were a few more failures throughout the evening (including narrowly missing getting in on an industry panel, Jason Reitman’s “meh” TV pilot, an over-priced mediocre Chinese restaurant, and waiting for nearly 2 hours to see High Rise before the entire rush line was cut), I think it’s safe to say that even a relatively bad day at TIFF is still better than any day back at home.
