Hi, my name is Destanee Freeman, I am a Cinema Studies major and Graphic Design minor at Oakland University. Currently, I am the treasurer of the student organization, Filmmakers Guild, at OU. I love TV and film, but then again, who doesn’t?

When it comes to films, I am a diehard fan of the Hunger Games. I feel pretty awesome when my hair is braided like Katniss Everdeen’s and when I get to dress up as her at each of the Hunger Games movie premieres. I also love The Shining, 21 Jump Street, Interstellar, and many others.

As far as television, I love The Office, Parks and Recreation, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead. I have many more favorites, but those are the ones I can watch over and over again.

I remember when I first heard about this class and how there was an opportunity to travel in order to learn more about the film industry. As soon as my professor told me about it, I told him, “I am taking that class for sure,” and there I am up at 6am, when registration opens, guaranteeing my spot in the class.

I am excited to learn about film festivals both in my CIN320 class and during the trip to TIFF, especially since I feel as though I know very little about film festivals. I am ready to step outside of my comfort zone in order to get the best learning experience on the trip.
