Today was the first real day of the festival for us, and it was thoroughly exhausting. After starting the morning off with the introduction industry panel, the group split off in two.
Most of everyone went to see a Conversation with Julianne Moore, but the more pretentious bunch of us saw the documentary Hitchcock/Truffaut, documenting the famous conversation between the two filmmakers and the book written by Truffaut about the experience. Although nothing groundbreaking, it was a really enjoyable documentary.
After a quick lunch, some of us nearly got sight of Matt Damon but couldn’t get past the huge crowd. We did manage to snap a few quick shots of Jessica Chastain as she made her way around the mass of people.
By this point, I had an empty block of time with nothing going on, so I decided to head to the rush line for the press and industry screening of The Witch. I waited for over an hour, but the film was well worth the wait. A slow and intense horror movie taking place in New England in the 1600’s, The Witch was gritty and frightening.
After finishing that and meeting back up with the rest of the crew, we sat down and ate dinner before heading to The Martian red carpet to try to get a glance at some of that movie’s A-list cast. We were (for the most part) unsuccessful.
As the night wound down and the rain started pouring, most of us decided to see TIFF’s first Primetime program, featuring the pilot episode of the Icelandic television show Trapped. Going into the screening knowing nothing about it, I can say that it was definitely worth checking out, and something I plan on watching once it becomes available.
Well, it was a long day. And we’ve gotten another long day ahead of us tomorrow. And 5 more after that. Excited to get to it!
P.S. I can almost promise that none of my other blog posts will be this excruciatingly detailed.
